USB Flash Memory Drives (also called Thumb/Pen/Stick/Jump Drives) are a great alternative to disk-based media. USB Drives come in different shapes and sizes, and can hold between 2 MB to 4GB (that’s almost as much as DVD!).
If you’ve never seen a USB drive before, here’s a brief explanation of how they work:
The drive uses flash memory to store data. Unlike most computer drives, there are no moving parts.
They’re “plug and play” with most PC and Mac computers. When you plug it into an available USB port on a computer, it functions like a traditional drive and can be loaded with information. You can password protect the data so it can’t be overwritten — or allow the user to re-use the drive with his/her own content.
USB drives generally need to be “ejected” using the operating system before removing them from the USB port

Standard USB drives have a limited shelf life, in that once materials are installed on the drives and distributed, there is no way of updating the information without providing new drives or asking your end user to exert the effort to implement the changes from their end.
