Custom Packaging Options
Flat and Dimensional Media Packages
In the area of packaging for CD, DVD, video and other common media pieces, fiberboard packaging is the most used option. Fiberboard can be easily printed in multiple colors (four color process and beyond), including aqueous, UV or film laminated finishes. The pieces are typically printed on a 12 to 15 point stock (0.012”-0.015”) often referred to as SBS (Standard Board Stock) and called either C1S or C2S (coated on 1 side or coated on 2 sides).
Corrugated Box
A container made of
corrugated fiberboard rather than solid paperboard. Corrugated
fiberboard is a paper-based construction material consisting of a
fluted (accordion-like) corrugated sheet and one or two flat
linerboards. It is widely used in the manufacture of corrugated boxes
and shipping containers. These are most commonly used to transport
products or kits with multiple components that may be of fairly
substantial weight. Corrugated boxes are stronger than non-corrugated
pieces, and so are better suited for those projects where weight may be
an issue. Corrugated boxes are often stamp printed or offset
printed. Depending on the level of detail needed, thin paper sheets
may be preprinted and laminated to the corrugate to give a very
high-end color printed look. Finishes from matte to high gloss are
also available.
Folding Carton Box
Typically made out of
paperboard. The paperboard is printed, die-cut and scored and glued to
form a blank. These are transported and stored flat, and erected at the
point of filling. Folding cartons are often used when your component(s)
are limited in type of weight. Folding cartons are an excellent
choice when a disc and/or small amount of printed materials are being
collected and distributed. Folding cartons are most often offset
printed on one side (the inside portion of the box is rarely printed
due to the expense, though the option certainly exists to do so.
Finishes from matte to high gloss are also available.
"Set Up" Box (or Rigid Paperboard Box)
Made
of a non-bending grade of paperboard. Unlike folding cartons, these are
assembled at the point of manufacture and transported already "set-up".
Set-up boxes are more expensive than folding boxes and are typically
used for high value items such as cosmetics and gift boxes.
Wooden Box
Typically
a custom manufactured piece done in one’s or other small quantities.
Due to the scope of work involved and the weight of the final piece,
wooden boxes are typically done as presentation pieces with limited
manufacturing runs.
Acrylic or High-End Plastic Box
Similar
to wooden boxes, acrylic or high-end plastic boxes are generally hand
made in short runs but may be just right for a project needing a unique
look.
